3 Options For Installing Your BlackBerry Themes

Option 1: Installing from the Internet, an App Store or a Download Link to Your BlackBerry
What is OTA Installation? OTA Installation stands for "Over-the-Air" and installs the theme directly to your BlackBerry device.

  1. After buying a theme, use your smartphone browser to access the download link
  2. Click the theme you want to install.
  3. Follow the phone prompts and install the software on your smartphone.
  4. Once done, go into Options then Themes and scroll down the list until you see the theme you downloaded. Wait a few seconds for the theme to be activated and your new theme is ready.

Option 2: Installing From Your Desktop to Your BlackBerry
First of all you need to make sure you extract all files to a folder in case the files would be in ZIP format. Then you can just copy the whole folder to the device memory or to a media card. You can now use your BlackBerry device to activate the OTA files on your device.
  1. Select the JAD file
  2. Select "Download"
  3. The Application will load on to your Blackberry and is now available in your application/theme menu.
Using a Download Link to Install to Directly Your BlackBerry Device
  1. Browse the ChameleonStores.com website via PC and find your favorite theme.
  2. Add the Theme to Your Cart and finish the purchase process.
  3. You will receive a confirmation email after purchase with a download link. Send this email to your BlackBerry device email account.
  4. Email it to your BlackBerry email you have setup on your BlackBerry.
  5. Once you receive the email on your BlackBerry device, open it up and click the link or hit menu and select "get link"
  6. That will take you to the download page.
  7. Click the theme you want to install.
  8. Follow the phone prompts and install the software on your smartphone.
  9. Once done, go into Options then Themes and scroll down the list until you see the theme you downloaded. Wait a few seconds for the theme to be activated and your new theme is ready.

Option 3: Installation from your PC to your BlackBerry Device via the BlackBerry Desktop Manager Software

  1. To install the themes you must download them to a PC and use the application loader tool of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. NOTE: You may want to first make sure that you update Blackberry Desktop Manager if you do not already have this, please uninstall the version you have and upgrade to version 4.3.0, which can be found here: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
  2. Download the new theme to your PC and unzip it if necessary. . Each theme consists of an .alx and a .cod file. You need to install both of these files. Before installing the .alx and .cod files you will need to find out the version number of your BlackBerry OS. It will be either 4.2.0, 4.2.1, or 4.2.2. All filenames end with the number of the OS they are created for. Some BlackBerry devices run all 3 versions of the BlackBerry OS (i.e. 4.2.0, 4.2.1, and 4.2.2) and some models only use a couple versions.
  3. Plug your Blackberry to your computer, open your Desktop Manager software and select Application Loader. BlackBerry device users can use the application loader tool of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to select the .alx file to download the theme to their BlackBerry devices. Choose 'Open', then 'Add'. When the dialog box opens up, find the 'alx' file associated with the theme you have just downloaded, select it, and click OK.
  4. Before you can activate a new theme on a BlackBerry device, you must restart the device so the BlackBerry Device Software can register the new .cod file. On some devices installing a new theme does not automatically trigger a device to restart; therefore, you must manually restart your device before you can activate the new theme. On other devices, installing the theme automatically triggers the system restart.

Q: When I double-click the ALX file to install it, my PC doesn't seem to recognize the file?

A: There are many reasons for this. Some PC's loose the connection between the ALX file format and the BlackBerry device. To install the theme, you will want to open the desktop manager and install the file manually without using the double-click method.

I downloaded this application and it has made my phone freeze totally. Even with a battery-pull, the phone takes forever to start up, but then I can do nothing. The cursor will not even move on the screen. Thanks a lot Chameleon
