HOW DO I INSTALL AND USE UNIVERSAL BACKGROUNDS?
The
file format for all Universal Backgrounds is in JPG format. This allows
the files to be compatible with a wide range of Palm OS programs. But
it also means that the files do not install automatically by
double-clicking on them on your PC or Mac. The JPGs need to be
transfered to your device by copying them onto a removeable storage
device. You also may be able to use Hotsync but it is important that
you know where the files will end up so that you can locate them later.
These files need to be installed and used by following these simple
procedures:

WHAT IS THEME MANAGER
(The following is an excerpt from the ZLauncher read me file.)
Theme Manager is a useful tool for managing themes, iconsets and
background images. You can manage themes, iconsets and background
images easily and quickly. You can change the color depth with the Color Depth drop down list. The choices of the Color Depth list are depended on the selected theme and the display capability of the handheld.
Theme
page lists all themes on the handheld. If the theme is stored on the
expansion card, the theme name is followed by an expansion card icon.
The path for storing themes is:
/Palm/Programs/ZLauncher/Theme/
Once you open Theme Manager, ZLauncher will create the directory for storing themes automatically.
To manage the theme, first select the theme, then choose the operation from the popup Operating Dialog.
Iconset
page lists all iconsets on the handheld. If the iconset is stored on
the expansion card, the iconset name is followed by an expansion card
icon.
The path for storing iconsets is:
/Palm/Programs/ZLauncher/Iconsets/
Once you open Theme Manager, ZLauncher will create the directory for storing iconsets automatically.
To manage the iconset, first select the iconset, then choose the operation from the popup Operating Dialog.
BackImage
page lists all background images on the handheld. If there's no icon
leading the file name, this file is a converted background image
database, otherwise, it's a picture file, and much be converted before
using as background image. If the background image is stored on the
expansion card, the background image name is followed by an expansion
card icon.

HERE IS WHAT PALM.COM SAYS ABOUT INSTALLING BACKGROUND PICTURES (WHICH INCLUDES UNIVERSAL PALM OS BACKGROUNDS)
________________________________________
Change the background picture:
All handhelds
1. Access the Applications launcher.
2. Open the Menus.
3. From the Options menu, choose Display Options.
4. Check the box for Background.
5. Tap on the image to select a photo from your handheld or an inserted
SD or MMC expansion card. If the stored image is not a square, it will
automatically be cropped to fit the dimensions of your screen.
6. Use the Fade slider to adjust the brightness or darkness of the
image. This feature is useful for screening back the image so that it
is a subtle background that doesn't visually interfere with the
applciations icons.
7. When finished, tap Done.
Note: When you perform a soft reset, depending on where the original
picture is stored, you may need to reinstall the background image. The
picture you chose may not appear in the Applications launcher
background. To restore your customized background image, you will need
the original picture to be present either in your handheld's internal
memory, or an inserted expansion card.
Background images are thumbnail-type images created from pictures
stored either on your handheld or on an expansion card. These thumbnail
images are not backed up when you perform a HotSync operation and will
not automatically be restored after a reset.
